A lot of DJI OM 5 users reported that they had problems connecting the device to their phones, the OM 5 vibrates and the videos were shaking.
This article discusses all the common issues DJI OM 5 users may have and provides some troubleshooting methods that may help you out.
Before we get down to business, please make sure that:
1. Your have installed the latest version of DJI Mimo app. If you are not sure, just delete the current app on your phone and find the latest one here: https://www.dji.com/om-5/downloads, then download and reinstall the DJI Mimo.
2. Your DJI OM 5 firmware is up-to-date. Every time you connect your OM 5 to your device, there will be a prompted message telling you that a new firmware update is available. Don’t miss that.
DJI OM 5 Problems and Troubleshooting
DJI OM 5 Vibration
Normally, The gimbal vibrates because the phone case is too thick or soft , the mobile phone is too small or thin, the gimbal motor is in self-protetion mode, or the phone clamp is not used correctly. Let’s check them one by one.
1. The mobile phone you use is compatible with DJI OM 5. If you are not sure, just check this post of DJI OM 5 compatibility list. If your phone is not in the list, you need to ensure it meets the following requirements:
- The weight (230 ± 60 g), thickness (6.9 to 10 mm), width (67 to 84 mm)
- iOS device requires iOS 11.0 or above.
- Android device requires Android 7.0 or above.
2. If you are using a small or thin phone like iPhone 8, Nova 8 or OPPO Reno 5 Pro, please use the provided riser pad.
3. Remove your mobile phone case and try again, if is the case problem, everything will be just fine. You can get a new compatible case or don’t use the case any more when shooting with your OM 5.
4. Check if there is any warning message saying Gimbal overheated, if so that means the gimbal motor is in selt-protection, you can restart the OM 5 and DJI Mimo.
5. Please ensure that you use the magnetic phone clamp correctly. There are three things you need to pay attention to.
1) The phone clamp must be installed in the middle of your mobile phone.

2) There should be no gap between your phone and the clamp.

3) The white dot on the clamp should aligns with the one on the gimbal.

6. Contact DJI Support to send your DJI OM 5 back if none of these work for you.
DJI OM 5 Video Shaking
If your phone is mounted correctly then the video shaking is likely caused by the following reasons
1. You might record the video after zooming in. Just switch back to normal video recording to see if it still exists.
2. The ActiveTrack is on before recording. So your phone would constantly move by following the subject. You can enable the ActiveTrack after recording starts.
3. You may record your video at a high frame rate like 60fps. You can try to lower the frame rate to see if it works.
4. Last but not least, if you tried everything but the video shaking still can’t be removed, then you need to contact DJI Support. You may need to send your DJI OM 5 back for repair.
DJI OM 5 unable to connect
Before the troubleshooting, please make sure you are using a compatible device that can install the latest DJI Mimo app.
Normally, the connection issue is caused by the DJI Mimo. You just need to delete the current version, and find the latest one then reinstall it.
If your phone is compatible and you have the latest DJI Mimo installed but you still can’t connect your DJI OM 5 to any mobile phone, then it’s probably a hardware issue, you will need to contact DJI Support for further assistance.
